Sometimes as you travel life's road, you encounter individuals who have such inner energy and light, you are overwhelmed and know at once you have met someone truly extraordinary.

I heard Liliane, who along with her husband Gilles founded and ran the Pavillon treatment centers in Quebec and North Carolina for many years, in 2006 at Unity Church of the Hills.  I loved her eastern European accent -- with a touch of French (she was born in Croatia and lived as a girl in France), but I was stunned at the clarity and wisdom of the words of this woman.  When she spoke the following year, I dragged Chris and others to see her.  To my amazement, she and Gilles retired here to Austin, where they live on the golf course in Lakeway.  I usually sit directly behind them in church -- they always seem to have an entourage of people they bring along -- and I marvel at the beaming smiles, true joy, and sense of fun excitement that Liliane exudes.  "She radiates energy," a friend wondrously observed.  For the past several weeks, I attended a Monday night seminar she led entitled "Transformation."  What do you want to become?  How do you want to change?  The answer to the question for me the first night was, "I want to make a difference in the world."  Beyond that, Liliane's thoughtful instruction made me focus on how I want to transform this year… among other things...

An emotional goal, "to trust my kids more"...

An intellectual goal, "to start my masters in religious anthropology at St. Edwards in the fall"...

A physical goal, "to truly get back in good shape"...

A financial goal, "don't spend money"...

These are the kinds of sessions that people like me ordinarily roll their eyes at a bit ("not my cup of tea" would be the thought), but I found myself fascinated.  There were so many different people with so many different ideas and intentions -- all very interesting -- but there was a collective energy in the room that was positively infectious.  Liliane's own story is epic,  from her early years through WWII with her father in Auschwitz to her tragedy and addiction in her thirties.  Her subsequent finding of herself, empowerment of her life, and decades of revitalizing others is nothing short of amazing.  Simply put, this is a woman who has the profound gift of helping and inspiring others in all walks of life to find a better experience in life.

Liliane Desjardins, with her youthful, vitality-filled demeanor, hip attitude, ancient wisdom, overflowing yet blunt compassion, and keen intellect -- Liliane Desjardin, "Being of Light" -- I wasn't surprised to find she and Gilles with a matching bumper sticker to mine on their car as we left the parking lot.  "COEXIST."    And with the gifts the Desjardins bring to the world, we coexist a little better.  If you live in Austin and have a chance to hear her or participate in their "Authentic Self" workshop, don't hesitate.
